I just completed the overnight off-road run from Perth out to York on the DRZ 400 - it turned out to be an excellent WA ride.
The route had a great mix of flowing trails, sand sections and some genuinely challenging bits—especially along the power line tracks where things got properly technical in places. Nothing impossible, but enough to keep you honest and make the DRZs feel like the perfect tool for the terrain.
The scenery through the Avon Valley was fantastic—rolling farmland, bush tracks and big open country that really reminds you how good the riding is not far from Perth. Bakers Hill also delivered a memorable pie.
The overnight stop at White Gum Farm was a highlight. We rolled in dusty, parked the bikes, and the support vehicle had everything sorted: BBQ fired up, steaks on the grill and a few cold beers under a big country sky. Hard to beat sitting around after a day of riding with the bikes lined up and nothing but stars above.
Rich, who leads the rides and runs the operation, did a great job guiding and keeping things moving smoothly all day. Kevin, driving the support vehicle, also did a fantastic job and was great company around camp.
Next morning was a relaxed run back toward Perth with a stop in York and a few more trails to finish it off.
Great mix of challenge, scenery and good company. If you like proper off-road riding and camping at a decent site with facilities, this ride ticks all the boxes.
